A while ago, there was a proposed movie based on the video-game HALO being kicked around by Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp. The movie was unfortunately head-shotted thanks to some problems with the proposed budget.
Well, polish your warthog (not a sexual metaphor) because a HALO movie could be starting up again thanks to Steven Spielberg. According to IESB, Spielberg loved the script that was submitted by Stuart Beattie and wants to produce. The script was based on the novel based on the game titled HALO: THE FALL OF REACH.
We have no idea right now on who will direct this thing this time, but if DISTRICT 9 does well, maybe we’ll see Blomkamp get a crack at making his movie, which sounded pretty awesome when they talked about it. There was even a little concept reel that Blomkamp put together that was cool. Look at it!
So, there you go. I really want Spielberg to stay away from directing this as his style really doesn’t fit the HALO motif…he’s a little too much of a “fluff-meister” if you know what I mean. I’m just hoping that because this will be a movie based on a novel that is based on a game it will avoid the whole “video-game movies are awful and smell like poo gas” thing. Keep your fingers crossed.
