X Marks The Director.

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

People who know me, know that I am a man. And, as a man, I am obligated to admit when I am wrong…damn rules. Anyway, you may remember with your memory that Bryan Singer ran into a bit of a scheduling snag regarding him directing the upcoming X-MEN: FIRST CLASS movie. I figured he would end up doing the movie anyway because money is awesome, but I was wrong…about the directing, not the money…money is still awesome.

According to the jerks over at the Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Vaughn has been signed to direct in place of Bryan Singer who has been demoted to producer. There is also a release date now; that being June 3, 2011.

Now, I don’t know Matthew Vaughn from a hole in the ground, but I do know that I haven’t met many holes in grounds that were able to direct blockbuster motion pictures, some arthouse stuff sure, but that’s a different ballgame. Here’s hoping he rises above.

A film was made not too long ago by Matthew Vaughn, about a kid who decides to be a super-hero just because. It’s based on a comic book by Mark Millar titled KICK-ASS and it has spawned a trailer. You may view it below.

Now, I’ve never read the comic book so I can’t comment about it, but I did view the trailer and can say that it looks dumb. It lost me right from the start where the dude jumped off the building and people were clapping…if you’re trying to make me believe that your movie is happening in a “real world” type setting you have to have people behave believably. If someone sees someone jump off of a forty story building they are not going to clap, they are going to run around screaming and some will probably be staring in horror or taking pictures with their cell phones.

You also can’t tell me that there aren’t any super powers in your world and tell me that a little girl who is obviously not in that great of shape can beat up a room full of grown men with weapons.

So, in conclusion, I’m not very impressed. There has to be someone out there that cares.
