I’ve heard grumblings for a while now that there is an all female-version of THE EXPENDABLES in the works. Some dude named Dutch Southern (seriously) has been given the writing duties for the as-yet-unnamed movie.
Now we’re hearing from Variety that the creators of this thing have brought in Gina Carano to anchor. This is excellent news.
Building this movie around Carano is great as I think she’s a rising and credible action star. The only problem that I have with a movie like this, is that there just aren’t any female action-stars of the caliber of a Stallone, Willis, or Arnold. Part of what made THE EXPENDABLES work was the whole nostalgia factor and I just don’t think you can build that with a female-centered cast. The only actresses that I can think of too add to this are Cynthia Rothrock and Milla Jovovich. They just don’t carry the same weight.
