Can’t Get Enough Of That Sweet, Sweet Hobbit.

If you were excited about the prospect of two THE HOBBIT movies then you’re going to be three times as excited to learn that the studio is considering breaking the second movie into two pieces as-well! That would make a total of three movies based on THE HOBBIT! That is a lot of Hobbit.

This news came from an interview with Peter Jackson that was posted at HitFix, by-the-by. Here’s what he said:

We have certainly been talking to the studio about some of the material we can’t film, and we’ve been asking them so we can do a bit more filming next year. Which, I don’t know what would come of that, whether it’d be extended editions or whatnot. But those discussions are ongoing… I’d like to shoot a bunch more material that we [couldn't] shoot. There’s so much good stuff in the appendices that we haven’t been able to squeeze into these movies, so that’s a discussion we’re having, yeah.

I don’t know if there was anything in the appendices that would be worth putting on film or wouldn’t just feel like padding. A third movie would definitely feel like a cash-grab to me and not a “we want to do this story right” thing. I just can’t imagine they can’t tell THE HOBBIT in 6 hours worth of film (three hours over two movies).
