If you enjoy anime or manga, then you’ve probably heard of GHOST IN THE SHELL. If you have no idea what anime or manga are, then you’ve probably never heard of GHOST IN THE SHELL.
Well, I’m not just here because I love to hear myself type; I’m here to teach. GHOST IN THE SHELL was a Japanese comic book about a cybernetic (and well-endowed) lady cop who would turn invisible by getting naked and fight crimes that involved robots and the internet. It was later turned into a cartoon movie and T.V. show that were both very good.
Well, obviously, what works in Japan will work 100 times better in the States, so Laeta Kalogridis (don’t ask me how to pronounce it, I just call him “Big K”) has been hired to write a script for a live-action, U.S. adaptation. This comes from Variety.
The ideas behind GHOST IN THE SHELL are pretty universal and the action involves a lot of guns and robots (which is always welcome) so this could be a really sweet movie. Of course, for the action to be anywhere near as cool as in the anime it will cost a lot of money so the studios will probably want to ignore a lot of the “thinking” stuff that made the original worthwhile.
